With advanced support services including diagnostic imaging and a full-service laboratory, St. Luke's Emergency Department is designed and equipped to treat serious, life-threatening emergencies and other less-serious problems. For patients suffering major trauma or cardiac events, our affiliation with high-level trauma centers ensure immediate access via helicopter or ambulance transport.

At St. Luke's Hospital, each staff member receives training in advanced cardiac life support, trauma care and ongoing instruction in the latest life-saving skills. All emergency personnel work as a team in times of crisis, sorrow, and joy to provide the personal compassionate care that sets St. Luke's apart.

Priorities Take Precedence

Unlike a doctor's office, medical emergencies are treated in the priority of severity, not on a first-come/first served basis. When you have urgent but non-critical needs, you may want to go to your primary care physician or Foothills Medical Associates where they offer extended hours. If you are unsure where to go, or think that you need services from our facility, come in at once.

The cost of treatment in an Emergency Department is usually considerably more than the same care from a physician's office or convenient care facility. For this reason, most insurance companies will not cover a visit to the emergency room unless it is declared a true emergency, as defined by the insurance policy. Become familiar with what your policy says about emergency room services before a crisis situation arises.

Visitor Policy

When someone you love is ill or injured, naturally you want to stay at their side. Our primary concern is your loved one. So that we can evaluate the patient thoroughly and begin necessary treatment, we require family members and other visitors remain in the waiting room for the first few minutes. The only exception is for minor children. We understand the anxiety patients and families experience in emergencies, so once treatment begins, one family member or friend is allowed whenever possible to stay at the bedside. Occasionally, a critical situation will delay or prevent you from staying at the patient's bedside. If this is the case, the staff will update you frequently about your loved one's condition. If your wait for information seems prolonged, ask the registration clerk for assistance.

St. Luke's Hospital Emergency Department is here if you need us, for any emergency in the day or night. Our professional skills and personal attention ensure you and your loved ones have access to exceptional emergency care, close to home.
