St. Luke’s Hospital offers a variety of imaging modalities designed to meet the imaging needs of Polk County and surrounding communities. We have licensed, experienced staff technologists to perform the exams and Board-Certified Radiologists to interpret the findings. Our Radiology Department is committed to providing superior service by investing in state-of-the-art equipment and retaining quality employees.

Patients are sent to the St. Luke’s Radiology Department by referral from their physician. Once the exam is complete, our physicians dictate the reports, which are then sent to the referring physician. The referring physician will review the results and relay that information to the patient.

Exams
At St. Luke’s Hospital, we provide the following services:

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a non-invasive exam that uses no radiation to create exquisite soft tissue images that are unavailable by any other means. MRI exams are done on-site, by a high-field mobile unit from InSight Mobile MRI. This unit visits St. Luke’s every Tuesday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. MRI is used to examine the following:

  • Brain
  • Extremities
  • Joints
  • Lumbar
  • Thoracic
  • Cervical Spine

MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography) studies the carotid artery, blood vessels in the brain, soft tissue and the aorta.

GE Lightspeed CT (Computed Tomography) provides full-range diagnostic imaging capabilities to examine the entire body using standard x-ray combined with a high-tech computer. Using CT, we can evaluate many parts of the body including:

  • Head
  • Neck
  • Extremities
  • Abdomen
  • Chest
  • Pelvis
  • With CT, we can also direct procedures such as biopsies and drainages.

Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive study using sound waves to produce images rather than radiation. With ultrasound, the following studies can be performed:

  • Abdomen
  • Pelvis
  • Extremities, to rule out clotting
  • Carotid Artery
  • Breasts
  • Thyroid
  • Arterial/Venous Doppler Studies

General X-ray is used for routine studies, portable exams, and in the Operating Room.

Bone Densitometry is a screening exam used in the diagnosis of Osteoporosis.

Mammography is only offered in Polk County by St. Luke’s Hospital. We perform both screening and diagnostic exams as well as needle localizations and ultrasound-guided biopsies.

Digital Fluoroscopy is a tool used in the examination of the internal organs with tests such as:

  • Modified Barium Swallows
  • Upper GI
  • Barium Enema
  • Lumbar Myelogram
  • Arthrograms

Nuclear Medicine studies are performed on-site and the following scans are available:

  • Bone Scans
  • Lung Scans
  • Renal Scans
  • Hepatobilary Scans
