You’re invited to join the fun
during the second annual Ache Around the Lake 5 Mile Run/Walk
around beautiful Lake Lanier when nature’s beauty is reflective
of the season. Can you just imagine hundreds of runners, walkers and a
few baby strollers, meandering their way around the scenic lake road in
the Carolina foothills? They’ll challenge themselves on a rigorous,
but beautiful course, racing against time for the glory, personal satisfaction
and, importantly, for a very good cause-- St. Luke’s Hospital and
Foundation. I promise you do not want to miss this!

Ache Around the Lake is USATF-sanctioned event to promote
fitness, health and wellbeing and to benefit our community’s private,
not-for-profit acute care hospital. As a full-service hospital, St. Luke’s,
along with our great medical staff, provides exceptional care, close to
home. For more information about St. Luke’s Hospital and Foundation,
please visit www.saintlukeshospital.com.

Of course we want--and need--your help so we can offer T-shirts, numerous
awards, refreshments and fun at the finish line. Please help us make this
a successful event by pledging your support. We expect Ache Around
the Lake will attract about 500 visitors to our community. They
will visit our shops and restaurants not only on Sept. 22, but they’re
sure to come back again and again to enjoy the ambiance of our community.

Take some time to consider the sponsorship opportunities that are included
with this letter. Check out our website at www.achearoundthelake.org
and see why you should join the fun on Sept. 22.
Thank you for your consideration to support our race and support our community
hospital. Your contribution will support St. Luke’s and our mission
to provide for the healthcare needs of our community. All money raised
this year will be used to support the St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation’s
goal to upgrade St. Luke’s Mammography Services with improved technology
for digital mammograms.
Breast cancer affects one in eight women, but with upgraded technology
for mammograms, we can offer our community improved capabilities for breast
cancer detection.
We’ll be in touch, but feel free to call Kathy Woodham or Jennifer
Wilson 894-2408 to discuss your involvement in this great event, the second
annual Ache Around the Lake.
Very sincerely,

Cameron's September 4, 2007 column here
To remain state-of-the-art
and give the best service possible, St. Luke’s imaging services
must move into the digital age so that images can be stored and read via
the internet anytime, anywhere. Some of the hospital’s radiology
equipment is digital ready and some, like the mammogram machine, can be
made digital ready with the addition of other equipment and renovation
of the mammogram room.
There is a health benefit to digital images of the breast as opposed to
film images. The heightened contrast and ability to manipulate the image
helps the radiologist find more cancerous and pre-cancerous conditions,
particularly in women with very dense breast tissue, women under 50, and
pre- or peri-menopausal women.
Please help us raise $275,000 for this important project that
will protect more women in the Polk County area from breast cancer!
To contribute to this project, please make your check payable to St. Luke’s
Hospital Foundation, 101 Hospital Drive, Columbus, NC 28722, or make your
contribution on a secure server with a credit card by using the button
